BCWS on the inserted sub project line in Master schedule isn't matching the BCWS in the subproject schedule itself RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

We are using MS Project Professional 2007 NOT Server.

We have a Master schedule with a number of inserted sub-projects.

MS Project calculates earned value and there is a rollup value at the summary line of each sub project build for BCWP, BCWS and ACWP.

The ISSUE is that The Master file has inserted sub projects and the BCWS does not have the same value at the inserted project line as it does on the sub project itself.

I run into that issue from time to time on the Finish variance field and all I do is change the Baseline Duration field on the inserted line in the Master from to what the sub project has and then it recaclulates it.

As an example Sub Project 5 has 34,236.5 in the sub project file summary line and the Master file inserted sub project line has 32,003.33.

How can I change this on the inserted Master file line as it is a calculated field.

There must be a value that can be reset to handle the BCWS on that Master file inserted line but I don't know what that would be.

  • I need to play with this myself, but as I recall, you need to set the status date on both the subproject (in standalone mode) and the master project for EVMS to work.

There's also an issue with how baselining in the master may/may not baseline in the subproject.  Take a look at the baseline fields in the master to confirm they're populated.

Here's a blog post I wrote a couple years ago on the topic - although I need to revisit it for 2010:
