Shadow messages in DAG member server and exist for a long time RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

    I have a DAG deployed with four member servers ,member1-4;

    member 1-3 in site 1;

    Member 4 in DR site;

    Recently, we found that there are a lot of messages in the shadow queue on DR sites and cannot be deleted.

    Don't know what's going on? it works for months without issues.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Anna,

    The shadow copy is retained in transport dumpster until the message is replicated to all the members of DAG. Please check the DAG health, and the database health.

    Did you do any changes in database or servers recently? Are there any related event logs in Member 4?

    Please also check if there is any network issue between Primary site and DR site, and try to reboot member 4 to check if any helps.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks for your reply Niko.

    The servers are all healthy. No events, and no changes recently. And there's no network issue per my check.

    It just stay for so long time the shadow messages, when i restart the transport service, it just a little message in the queues disappear and others are not.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Hi Anna,

    Are these messages being delivered successfully?

    If all messages have been delivered successfully, you can consider using the following script to clean up shadow queues:

    Cleanup Shadow Redundancy Queues

    If you want to clean up messages that are more than 2 days in Shadow queue, you can edit the following line in that script:

    $currentdate = (get-date(get-date -Format G)).AddDays(-2)
