Server 2016 Storage Replica in Stretch Cluster for SOFS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

we are actually planning a good solution for high available storage for our hyperv clusters.

The plan is to use Intel server with Mellanox Infiniband 56gbs Adapter + jbod cascades in each server site

Each storage Server (2 at all) will have around 12x 4TB 7.2k rpm sata disks and in the jbod 20x1tb 10k rpm sas with 4x400gb ssds for storage tiers.

The idea is to have a raid 10 at the end with the storage replica.

    How does it work?

Can we build storage pool's on each storage node and use SSDs for the log files?

I've tried to build up a storage spaces with tp2 but the replication setup was not successfull, maybe because of the usage of slow hdds?

actually i can only test it wich VMs

    Kind regards

  • Hi NVO88,

In order to deploy Storage Spaces Direct, the Hyper-V switch must be deployed with RDMA-enabled host virtual NICs.

Install Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview on both server nodes with an installation type of Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview (Server with Desktop Experience). Do not choose Standard Edition if it is available, as it does not contain Storage Replica.

More details please refer the following KB:
