HDD Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We installed a SBS 2008 server with a single boot drive.

This drive now has a bad block/sector.

We added a second HDD so as to enable a mirror of the boot drive, but due to the bad block, we are unable to complete the mirror.

Is there a work around so that we do not have to "re-install" the server?

    Please advise

    Thanks

    Eugene

  • Hi:

Remove the old drive.  Install the new drive.  Restore from backup.  The process of Windows mirror should work after.  To accomplish a hardware mirror of this drive, consult the manufacturer.

  • That is what I am trying to avoid.

The mirror starts, but then fails because of the bad block /sector.

Is there another solution / suggestion?

  • What are you trying to avoid?  Restoring from backup?  Consulting the controller manufacturer?  Replacing the drive?
