Vista service pack 2 --Missing taskbar icons RRS feed

  • Question

  • after installing the windows update for vista service pack 2, I have lost the volume and network icons from the taskbar and cannot figure a way to get them back. The taskbar properties section has those icons greyed out. Any help out there. Mel Hankin from Florida

  • Hi Mel Hankin,

Volume and Network icons could be missing due to couple of problem registry entries.
Check out the following link and delete the problem registry entries.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-when-clock-volume-power-or-network-icons-are-missing-and-grayed-out-in-windows-vista/

Let me know if you have problems figuring it out. I will be online until 9: 30 PM PST tonight.

    Thanks.

  • Hi There,

got the same problem after installing SP2.

I checked the link from "howtogeek" but I dont have any of the regkeys listed which should be deleted.....also in taskbar properties the clock/volume/network options are greyed out... The clock is visible though.

Im on a vista 64bit Ultimate UK acer aspire 9920 laptop

Any suggestions would be welcome :-)

    Thanks!

  • Oh,

It works for me now. I killed the explorer.exe process and started it again....icons are back again.

    Also after a reboot

    thanks!
