Vista Event Logs- Sleeping and Hibernating RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

First, apologies if this is the wrong place to be asking my question!

Is there a way to determine, from system event logs, whether a machine has been put to sleep or is hibernating?

I've been going through the event logs of a couple of machines, and from my limited testing I've narrowed my search down to Kernel-Power EventID 42. From what I've seen, the event log notes that the system is going to sleep regardless, but the given TargetState and EffectiveState changes (4 for sleep and 5 for hibernate). Is this expected behaviour, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

    Thanks for any help!

    Ben
