DNS delegation for the domain is broken RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

Recently we have created the zone in our domain,  Zone was associated with NS records. Also created host A record of the same name as NS record.

Whatever the Zones we have created are showing as broken delegation. However, NS records which are associated with zone are resolving properly.

I have taken the detailed verbose report of DNS test. Getting below error. Kindly advise

Error details: 9501 Type: Win32 - Description: No records found for a given DNS query.

    Thanks !!

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting in the forum.

May I have a look at the output of the dcdiag command?

For example if the delegating zone is a.local and the delegated zone is b.a.local. Would you please tell us that when creating DNS delegation, did you type b.a.local instead of b? Does the issue persists if you type only the child zone while creating delegation?

Please also make sure that the delegated zone has already been created on the DNS server which will host the delegated zone before the delegation is created.

    Regards,

    Zoe

  • Sorry for the delayed response.

Actually the issue is not related to our DNS setup or delegated zones.  Dcdiag is checking the delegation with the assumption that the delegate NS is a real NS, while the NS for SmartConnect is strictly for Isilon. In Isilon there is no concept of NS which is why it showing as broken delegation.

Thanks Zoe for your valuable response. I appreciate it.
