DPM 21012 R2 Doesn't Restore File Attributes RRS feed

  • Question

  • DPM does not restore file attributes correctly.  For example, we utilize the attributes flag on our files.  Specifically we change the Attribute "A" to "N" on millions of files. (example below)  When restoring data from DPM, it restores the data with an attribute of "A" when is should be "N".  It took weeks to figure this out and recover from it.  Can you please confirm this bug and work on a fix?

  • Hi

File N Attrib FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL (0x80) can only be set when a file does not have other attributes set. This attribute is valid only when used alone.  During a recovery, the original file is ether overwritten if restored to original location, or is created as a new file if restored to alternate location.  Under both of those circumstances the file will have the Archive (A)  bit set since the file being replaced or created is considered a changed file. This ensures it is flagged so any backup applications that use the Archive bit will back it up since the file is not the original or is a new file.   So basically A and N attributes are mutually exclusive.

  • What backup applications use the Archive (A) bit anymore?

Is there anyway to force DPM to restore the files with the exact same attributes?  (N) in this case.
