server 2008 folder permission RRS feed

  • on windows server 2008 standard sp2, on a shared folder can i deny the deletion of files, but allow moving files from one folder to another?

  • What's your current Share and Security settings? I think if we denied delete, we should not able to rename or move either.

  • Hello,

    to deny deletion of files, proceed like the following:

    • Go to the properties of your folder
    • Select Security and then click on Advanced
    • Add the wanted user and deny Delete permission for Delete and Delete Subfolders and files.

    To be able to move the folder content to another, give Change permission for the share and Modify permission for NTFS on the destination folder.

  • I think it is not available to do so as move = delete from current folder and create in target folder. So if a user is denied from deleting, she/he should also not able to move content files. Copy is fine.

  • in fact if i deny delete, but allow change, i can modify files, rename files but not move and delete. My hope was that with any setting i could do it.

  • from 22 to 26 company is closed for italian festivity, I will keep you informed.

    edit: is possible with server 2008 standard enable recycle-bin on shared folder? user delete important files from folder but deny delete, user cannot  move files and cannot rename files.

    If there is any progress please just let us know.It is really urgent for me  AND my company.

    it is not possible to use Modify and Deny delete in same time.Because one of the point of Modify is deleting.

    And when i pick the check of modify up ,Users in network can work on their files but can not save them.

     

    what is going on???? I don't know
