Allow this server to act as a proxy and discover managed objects on other computers? RRS feed

    Hi,

My SCOM book tell me that the setting "Allow this server to act as a proxy and discover managed objects on other computers" means it "will allow the management server to collect information from other managed server types. If you have SNMP in your environment, you could allow management server to collect SNMP traffic from managed devices and use the information in the Operations Manager Database"

I'm not exactly clear on this. When they say other managed server types, are they talking Linux etc? Or is this for SNMP devices like routers and switches etc? Or does this mean it will manage SNMP devices that are connected to managed clients?

Also, it notes that "There is a potential risk involved in allowing a server to discover managed objects". What risk are they referring to? Is it a risk from the management server side, or the device side?

    Appreciate any answers.
