vista 64 Sp1all usb drives dissappear when flash drive installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 3 high capacity USB drives plugged into my work station.  They all work perfectly  until I plug a flash drive into the system (at a hub or at the computer).  As soon as it is recognized all the other USB drives "evaporate" and can only be restored by rebooting.  When I reboot with the flash drive installed, all drives show up and have the assigned drive letter.  There is no problem when the flash drive is removed.  As soon as it is re-installed, the problem repeats itself.  They do not exist in the Disk Manager when this happens.  If I unplug one of the drives, I hear the sound that recognizes that it has been removed.  If I plug it back in, the compputer makes the sound, acknowledging the it sees the hardware.  It does not install the device.  Does anyone have an explanation for this phenomina?  This was not a problem on my older XP computer.
