How to prevent programs from adding them to the recent list in start menu? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In XP and Vista it was possible to set the flag "NoStartPage" into the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\application.exe key. In this case the application.exe did not appear to the recently used programs list. This do not work with Windows 7 anymore. Is there now another way to keep out single programs from this list?

  • Have no clue how to do all that, but you could go into the Start menu, right click the unwanted item, and select "Remove from this list".

  • First, this is not permanent, the removed entries come back after the next start.
Second, I want to remove them via an external tool.
And third, I want to set this for programs in advantage, before they can get into the start menu.

It seems that is no possible in Windows 7 anymore, or they just forget to implement this feature?

  • "NoStartPage" broke in Windows 7. It works in XP and Vista to blacklist an app from the MFU list.
