  • Question

  • Is it possible to change the "welcome" text during login? If not, is it possible to add an additional line of text under the "welcome" text?

  • Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

As far as I know, you can’t edit the welcome message without using third party software. But you could add a custom message to the Welcome Screen before login. To do this, you can configure the following Group Policies to show additional message during login.

    Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

Under the security options folder, there are two entries:

Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on

Interactive logon: Message title for users attempting to log on

Please configure both of the above entries, ether of the two settings isn't configured, the message doesn't show up before the logon screen

    Best Regards

  • There's no way to replace that specific "welcome" message.  Perhaps you can use the Interactive Login messages outlined above to explain to users "If this is your first use, it may take a moment for your profile to be created. Please be patient."

  • Dale,

I am using both of those options already. When users login the word "Welcome" is displayed. During profile creation, users can get impatient during to one to two minute wait. I was hoping to change this to an XP style message of something like, "Please wait while your profile is loaded."

    Thanks, D

  • You can edit the strings in the file below to change the text that appears during new profile creation.  I'm not sure if it will effect system stability, performance, or if there are any other side effects.

These "MUI" files (Multilingual User Interface) appear to be for supporting additional languages without effecting the main resource files, so MAYBE they are ok to edit?

    Windows\System32\oobe\en-US\msoobeFirstLogonAnim.dll.mui

"resource hacker" is a good tool.  http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
