Installing Product Key in Nano Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Has anyone installed a product key in Windows Nano Server 2016?  I know the old slmgr command isnt going to work since it uses vb script.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  • Well can only get a remote PowerShell to a NANO server and that indeed does not know slmgr. PowerShell license commands appear for Management server so guess on licensing servers.

Looked up the Windows Server 2016 Volume Licensing page, NANO server listed with a X in the table under features (not 100% what the X means) but double asterisks and '**Software Assurance is required to deploy and operate Nano Server in production."

Will  it  work  when run it directly?

Since it is a license question, you could contact Microsoft licensing team. In the United States and Canada, you may call the licensing team directly at 1-800-426-9400.

Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/worldwide.aspx to find contact information in their locations.

  • There is no vb script in nano so it will not run directly.

It is hard to believe that Microsoft does not include this basic configuration step in their Nano setup guide.
