Cannot assign drive letter to USB hard drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a USB hard drive formatted NTFS that my computer recognizes, but will not assign a drive letter. When I go to Disk Management, it shows the partition as "Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)". When I right-click, the "Change Drive Letter" option is grayed out.

I have several USB hard drives that this computer won't work with.

I have no problem with USB thumb drives, SD cards, etc. Also, some of my USB hard drives do work!

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

These USB drives work fine on my two other Windows computers (Vista and 7) as well as on my Mac (10.3).
