Software distribution using SCCM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi
I'm trying to distribute fileconvertor as my test software to four test machines using CCM 2007, I succeed to push and noticed the advertisement of "New program is ready to be installed" on the clients(four test machines) and that's all I get, no software is installed even if I  keep it for the whole day, I believe that the whole configuration is in the right way.
I suspect that the problem should be on my distribution point(branch) configurations of which I'm not clear with, is there any way I can do this to have a successsful installation of the software to these four machines?
    thanks

  • Have you tried what the message suggested? The reason is that the client cannot find the package (content) on at least one DP. Locationservices.log and CAS.log should provide details.

  • Have you added a mandatory schedule in the advertisement's properties? You would have to kick off the installation manually if there's no mandatory schedule.
See execmgr.log, locationservices.log and CAS.log if the client is able to retrieve content (i.e. the package source on a DP).

  •  Hi Torsten,
Thanks for the feed, well I tried that but still haven't succeeded to install and this is the error message that I get after pushing the software.

''The content for "VTZ0000B" - "1" could not be located.
This SMS client will no longer attempt to locate this content.
    Possible cause:
The content source might not be available on any distribution servers,
or the advertisement may have been marked not to run program when no
local Distribution Point is available and this SMS client is in remote
roaming boundaries of the site. Content source might not be available
because the advertisement is configured with the option Run program from
distribution point on one or more branch distribution points and is not
available on a standard distribution point. Branch distribution points
do not support advertisements that are configured with the option Run
    program from distribution point.
Solution: Use the Manage Distribution Points wizard to distribute the
content to a distribution point. If this SMS client is expected to stay
in remote roaming boundnderies then change the advertisement to allow
running program from remote Distribution Point. Use the Manage Distribution
Points wizard to distribute the content to a standard distribution point if
you want to use the option Run program from distribution point.
