  • Is it possible to set PVS in maintenance mode and check if Firefox is working?

    Check also this topic:

After updating our Golden Images (Xentools, Windows Updates, PVS drivers), some App-V 5.0 applications fail to start, logging a 0xc0000005 error in the event log and showing a "[Application] has stopped working" error. Sometimes they work the first time you start them and then crash the second time. This only happens when the image is set in ‘Production’ in Citrix PVS, when set to ‘Maintenance’ the problems do not occur. Also, when we redirect the "Package Installation Root" to a non-provisioned D-drive, no problems occur either. Before we updated the images, all was fine as well, but unfortunately, the old versions of the images have been deleted (as we did not notice these problems until later).

  • Hi YvesRamseyer,

Which version of Citrix? Do you also have Citrix PVS?

  • 0xc0000005 is a generic error-code, which usualy is access denied somewhere. Could you run a procmon trace, and check it?

Did you allready install hotfix2 of SP2?

  • I am running into a similar issue with App-V 5 on Xen Desktop 5.5 with PVS 6.1.

Some packages work fine, others such as Firefox, Visio 2010 and SAP 7.2 Gui will start 1st time, but not the 2nd.

App-V 5 SP1 client was installed. I then upgraded to SP2, Then SP2 hotfix 2. Then disabled shared content streaming. None of which resolve the issue.

The only way I have got App-V to work correctly is by running the PVS VDisk in private/maintenance mode. It looks like an issue with App-V 5 and PVS 6.1 with write cache on devices hard disk enabled.

I'm going set the App-V cache to the persistent D:\ drive to see if that resolves the issue. However its not really fix for this deployment due to the limited disk space available on the persistent drive unless it works with shared content streaming.

  • Until you are able to upgrade to PVS 7.1, setting the cache to a persistent D drive will work.  We've been running this way on our production systems for over a year.
