Windows 7, Defrag Log & Task Scheduler RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am running some tests on Windows 7 and attempting to create a task for defrag that will create a log file. If I run the following from a command line it works: "C:\Windows\Syste32\Defrag.exe E: /V>c:\log.log" however if I create a new task in task scheduler with a Program/Script path of "C:\Windows\System32\Defrag.exe" and Arguments of "E: /v>c:\log.log" it does not create a log file?

Why is it failing to create a log via the Task Scheduler?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

I've checked this in Vista and it fails to create the log file as well.

    Thanks!

The issue arises that the degragmenter utility cannot create a file on the volume it's analysing. Just insert a memory stick, or use another drive and the log file is created fine.
