Activation Office 2019 MAK KEY RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi team,

I am deploying Office 2019 in a task sequence with WIndows 10 1909. The MAK key is added to the xml file (PIDKEY). Everything works except that when I first start an office product, I don't have the activation wizard by phone. (my environment has no network). If I add the key manually, I have the wizard ???
When I look in the file / account menu, it is specified that Office is activated ... but the grace period is 30 days ...

Can we force Wizard activation by telephone with a command line ?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

  • Hi,

For environments without Internet connection, Key Management Service (KMS) and Active Directory-based activation are recommended options.

If you want to use MAK, MAK proxy activation by using VAMT is better. You need to enable one computer with internet access to process activation requests on behalf of multiple computers. MAK proxy activation is configured by using the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT). MAK proxy activation is appropriate for environments in which security concerns might restrict direct access to the internet or to development and test labs. For more information, see Perform Proxy Activation.

If you want to activate Office 2019 with MAK product keys by telephone, you need to activate Office 2019 on each computer one by one with from Activation Wizard UI by calling Microsoft. Considering that the Activation Wizard wouldn't appear if you configured MAK key in configuration.xml, you can get Activation Wizard from UI by clicking Activate Office button from yellow notification bar under ribbon or go to File >  Account page, click Activate or Change product key

If you want to activate without  the activation wizard, you may need to use command lines to get Installation IDs of your Office 2019 clients, then call Microsoft and follow the guide to get Confirmation IDs. Last, use command line to input Confirmation IDs for your Office 2019.

Command line to display Installation ID for offline activation.

    cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /dinstid or cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /dinstid

Command line to activate product with user-provided Confirmation ID. Value parameter is required.

    cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /actcid:value or cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /actcid:value

For information, read Tools to manage volume activation of Office.

If you have any updates, feel free to post back to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Herb

  • Hi Herb,

"Considering that the Activation Wizard wouldn't appear if you configured MAK key in configuration.xml"
This is an assertion on your part, it means that this is normal behavior ?
It is a secure environment, the network card is disabled. The only activation allowed is by phone.
The activate Office button does not appear since Office says it is activated. Yet the Grace period is still 30 days?

  • Hi,

Based on my knowledge, if you input or specify product keys in configuration.xml in advance, the Activation Wizard wouldn't appear. You can try to remove the product key from configuration.xml and download a new copy of installation package to reinstall Office 2019 after completely uninstalling

In addition, if you don't want to uninstall existing Office 2019 installation, you can remove installed product key with ospp.vbs via command line as well that it could make the Activation Wizard appear:

    1. Open Command Prompt as an Administrator,
    2. Type cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /dstatus   or cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /dstatus

Note: The opss.vbs script is located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16 folder. If you installed the 32-bit version of Office on a 64-bit operating system, go to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16 folder. For Office 2016, Office 365 and Office 2019, the name of folder is Office16. Press Enter.

Please find the records related to Office 2019, pay attention to find out Last 5 characters of installed product key: XXXXX then type cscript "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX or cscript "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office16\"ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX , press Enter. Then check if it works.

You can also check if you can get Activation Wizard from UI by going to File >  Account page, click Activate or Change product key.

Any updates or anything unclear, feel free to post back to tell us.

    Best Regards,

    Herb
