cant edit project in pwa

    Question

  • Hallo,

I have a Server with Project Server 2016 running and a Client with Project Professional and the newest IE.
After I setup the Server everything was fine, I could access and edit projects from Professional and from the browser. But after a week cant edit a project via the pwa, but I can see it.
    Thats the error message:
An error occurred while opening your project. Give us a few minutes and try again. If this happens again, contact your administrator.

Info: I have all needed permissions. Even the site-admin cant edit it.
since the i configured the server, I did several changes including custom fields.
After the error happens, the project is checked out.
If it is not clear, ask me for more information.

    Thanks for your help!

  • I found the answer to my problem,

I changed in the Gantt chart formats the setting for the Custom Duration 1.
When I unchecked this setting, I could edit every project.

Is this another bug in MS Project Server 2016 or is ist my fault?
Is there a workaround for this?
I want to color a gantt-bar depending of the state of a enterprise custom-field.

    thanks for any help!

  • Hello,

Do you get this for all projects you try and edit in PWA or just one? Can you edit this project via Project Pro still?

Yes, this error happens on all projects.

With MS Project Professional every thing works fine, as it should be.

  • Check in your project from PWA

Then clear the cache in project professiong.

    Project Pro/ File / Options /Save / Clean cache

  • Thanks for your response,

I did exactly your instructions, but it didnt help. The same error message appears in PWA when I want to edit a project.

Maybe I can give you more detail on my problem, just ask me what you need to know.

  • Hello,

I solved the problem, kind of.
When I restore my view definition in the Centraladmin to a the last state, the problem disappears.
I tried to recreate this error by changing my views, but it wont appears again.
