DPM 2010 - Consistency checks stops after 23 hours RRS feed

  • Question

  • When running a consistency check on a very large amount of files, the checks repeatedly stops after 23-24 hours.

How do I solve this, so that I get a full consistency check and a good replica?

  • No reboots on both sides, nor any network problems.

  • Hi,

This error might be caused by the DPM agent (DPMRA) crashing on the protected server.  If that is the case, then we would need to look at a dump of the process when it crashed.  You can look in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\DPM\Temp folder on the protected server and see if you can find why or if it's crashing.

  • Unfortunately, it's the DPMRA crashing on the DPM Server:

The DPMRA service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 4 time(s).

How do I figure out what's causing this?

  • Is your SQL Server installed on the DPM Server?

Please check if SQL Server takes all the RAM at the Point of the Crash?

If this is so, configur SQL Server to max Memory and hold about 2GB of Ram for Operating System

  • DPM is 2010, Rollup 7, Agents are also up to date.

SQL is not on the box, used to, but removed that. Server is equipped with 4 GB, Memory available is around 1 GB. Memory Free is low, somewhere around 0-5 KB. Hard Faults is very low though. CPU is a quad-core Opteron (HP 185G5).

  • Hi,

OK - I'm not aware of any known DPMRA crash issues for DPM 2010 UR7 - so this will need to be investigated by getting the crash stack and possibly a process dump.  Please open a support ticket for investigation.

In the meantime - run a chkdsk /f against the DPM replica volume to be sure we're not crashing due to a file system problem.

  • I've added 4 GB to the box. Memory in use went up from 3.2 to 5.4 GB, let's see what happens over the next day(s)
