Windows 7 Bug: Bogus error message renaming local drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenario:

Windows 7 Professional host which is a member of a Server 2003 R2 ActiveDirectory domain, logged on using an AD account that has Domain Admin privileges. In addition, the logged on account is an explicit member of the local administrators group.

When attempting to rename a local drive in Windows Explorer, you receive the following error message:

"Access Denied: You will need to provide Administrator permission to rename this drive"

There is no prompt for credentials, and the operation continues successfully despite the error message.
