Unable to Link Project Task in Project Plan with Issues and Risks on Project Site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Not even sure if this is the correct forum :( Here I go

I had previously added "Links" to Risks in the Project Site which allowed me to link project plan task with a risk.  I have been making changes ever since but all of sudden i noticed that now if I create another project in project center, I am unable to link any risks with project tasks.  also if i go back to previous site, it shows the link added to the risk but doesn't allow me add/edit.  i can't seem to figure out what i might have changed.  your help is always appreciated.

    thanks and regards,

    kashif

  • Hi Kashif,

Please see the below article by Paul.
    http://pwmather.wordpress.com/2011/06/20/project-server-2010-project-site-default-fields/

Getting synch errors in the Project Queue relating the Reporting WSS sync? Link to task functionality not working? Risks and issues not showing in the reminders web part on the PWA home page? If you have any of these issues then it is quite likely that you have either edited or deleted some of the default fields from the Project Site’s Risks or Issues lists. The Risks, Issues, Deliverables lists are integral to Project Server so the best advise is to leave the default fields alone and create new fields to meet your requirements. It is possible to hide the default fields if required.

Thanks to Paul for saving lot of time & writing such excellent articles :)

  • Hi Kashif,

What do you see when you say it isnt working? Any errors? Anything not displaying? Do you have the "Create Object Links" permission enabled on the category permissions?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • Hi Amit,

Thanks for your reply.  I was hoping that the article above would solve my issue however it is still disabled.  I have a project template that is used to create project site.  I have deleted, deactivated, re-activated on the template to no avail.  I tried creating a new project using the template but no luck.  I can see the "Links" field when adding new risk however i can't select a task to link it.  Even Any other ideas.

    Regards,

  • Hi Kashif,

So to confirm, if you create a project using the default Microsoft Project Site template, does the linking functionality work then? If it does then somewhere in the process of modifying your custom template you may have broken the linking functionality. Create a test project with a test project site from your custom template, confirm the linking functionality if broken on the Risks list. Delete the Risk list from this test project site then click Site Actions > Site Settings > Manage Site Features, scroll down to the “Project Sites Collaboration lists”. Click “Deactivate” and click ok the the warning. Once complete the page will reload the site features, this time click “Activate” next to Project Sites Collaboration Lists. Now re-test the linking functionality on the Risks list? Does this work? Worth noting, this will be the default Risks list and not your customised Risks list.

  • Hi Paul,

I have just tried it with default project site template and linking isn't working there either.  I have tried the above as well on default template :(  Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delayed response.  I got pulled in another direction on a different issue.  when i create a new risk item, or issue, i can see the form with "Links" label but there is no where to select (control is not disabled, it just doesn't exist).  i am using administrator security template to assign the rights to my user account and it does have the check box "checked".  should i try de-activating and re-activating project list feature on the top level-site of the site collection?  thanks for your help.

    regards,

    kashif

  • Hi Kashif--

Did you login with administrator's acceess on PWA? Did you install  Fab 40 Project Tracking Workspace template? This might be useful :

  • Hi Amit and Paul,

Thank you for your assistance.  I should actually step back and outline my exact scenario and what i had changed.  not sure if this would happen exactly the same way for another person.

Every time the content type is created based on list content item type, it add "title" by default.  this was becoming redundant and unnecessary in some cases so I had changed it to "Hidden" on item content type which affects all the lists even the one used by project site.  since i had been trying multiple things, i also went back and reverted the settings on item, issue, and task content types, followed the activate/deactivate and voila, i can see the list column and can link to task in project plan.  thanks again.

    Regards,

    kashif
