Change partition size of Windows 2003 Std R2

Question

Hi all
We have Windows Server 2003 installed in partition C: (partition size 32GB) and data in partition D:, and both partitions are on the same 1TB HDD.
Now the C: is running out of space and the free space is less than 1GB. As partition D: still has free space of about 400GB, we would like to extend partition C:. We have searched some forums and found that some third-party partition softwares could help, like
EaseUS Partition Master Server Edition,
(http://www.partition-tool.com/partition-magic/resize-partition-windows-server-2003.htm)
AOMEI Partition Assistant Server Edition,
(http://www.extend-partition.com/purchase.html)
Partition Manager Server-Minitool Partition Wizard Server Edition
(http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-manager-server.html)
Partition Assistant Server Edition
(http://www.partition-magic-server.com/purchase.html)
We would like to know which one is more reliable to keep our data in D:, though we have daily backup for that.
Thanks a lot

Hi Terry,
Configuring 32 GB for C drive is enough for windows server 2003.Search for the folders which consume more disk space, move/compress/delete un-needed data and claim more free space.
Still if you want to extend a partition, use either Diskpart (built in comman line utility) or 3rd party tools.
Please refer the steps in similar thread C Drive Space Upgrade

first you will have to shrink the data partition and then you can extend c: drive. Please be noted that you can extend the partition using diskpart utility from windows but as a matter of fact there is no native functionality to shrink the partitions in Windows 2003, how ever Microsoft has provided shrink partition as a new feature STARTING from Windows 7.
you will have to use the third party tools for shrink like partition magic

thanks Ravikumar. Actually it's used to be enough space (over 10GB). However, after I install the latest Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. It consumes around 12GB space. I checked and found that most of them are Client Install Package, but they cannot be deleted.
Anyway, I will try third-party software to resize the partition. Thanks.

Hi I have GPARTED which is a good software. If you have only data on D drive which can be moved temparory then move the data and delete the D partition and then extend the C partition.
if both drives has the data on them not sure if it will work you probably need to run Defrag before hand but moving data and deleting partion probably works better.
Thanks

This situation using third-party partitioning tool for professional is necessary, several tools as you said above, I think the best is the third minitool Partition Wizard sever Edition,Tuesday, July 15, 2014 2:50 AM

Thanks all
I would also like to know if our C: has 2 HDDs running in RAID-1, is there any difference for resizing of the partitions? Or I need to do it on each HDD?
Thanks

Hi terryamk,
I assume that it is a raid on hardware level .
Based on my understanding, you do not need and can not do it on each hdd .
