  • Aero won't activate until you have obtained a Windows Experience Index rating.  Right click on My Computer, get a rating, and as long as your computer has enough resources, it will activate Aero.

  • MexPower,

Please supply a bit more information.
    Which NVidia card?
    Which version of the drivers?
    Is there any error message?
Have you checked the event log to see if something is there?
What happens when you try to use the Aero theme?

    Thank you.

  • You should double check if you have the right drivers for your card - if you're not sure which card you have, a program called GPU-Z from techPowerUP can tell you:http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1379/mirrors.php

If all that's right, then there a few things you need to check:
Make sure that the theme is not set to Windows 7 basic or one of the contrast themes
Check to see if transparency is disabled (it should be enabled)
Check your power settings - being on power saver mode disables transparency

That's not necessarily true, because that wasn't the case for me. But if it works out for you, good.

  • If Aero in Windows 7 disappears for some unknown reason do the following before starting most of the other good ideas listed throughout the web:
The assumtion is that more than 1MB of Ram memory exists and the Hz rating is high for your PC.

    1. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > click Windows Experience Index > click Re-run the assessment... wait.

(Dispite the fact that it was done before, the the Aero feature is dependent on the running of this function to be able to activate.)

    2.  If nothing has reset yet, and it should not typically at this point, go to Start > Control Panel > Personalization > change to any different theme containing Aero and NOT to the Windows 7 Basic which has no Aero features > if all works, and it should, reset to an Aero theme of your liking.

Basically we are noting that Aero did work before and that you are having difficulty finding a way to reactivate it.  This therefore assumes your PC's hardware configuration for Aero complies.
