Retain section numbers when cutting/pasting from word table to excel RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I'm trying to copy a bunch of word tables into Excel. (Extracting requirements from a huge RFP.)

    The thing is, the first column of each table includes auto-generated section numbers; when I paste the table into Excel, the numbers reset to and restart (e.g., for the second table, the numbers reset from to 

    After some experimenting, it sure looks like the numbers are reset as part of the COPY operation, not the paste (paste as text, into another word document yields the same problem).

    Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

  • Before copying, you could run a macro in Word containing the line:


    Paul Edstein
    [MS MVP - Word]
