How to get existing FCS agents to connect with re-installed FCS system with Management server (same name), but new DB server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Modified 3-server topology (VMWare, Windows Server 2008 SP2, SQL Server 2005 Standard): Mgmt/Coll/Rpt server; Coll/Rpt DB server; existing WSUS server.

Old DB server was installed with SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (trial version), new DB server installed with licensed SQL Server 2005 Standard.  Was unable to successfully migrate the data from the Enterprise version to the Standard version.  Now looking to dump the old data and start with a fresh install of FCS on the Management/Collection/Reporting server, keeping the same name.  The only difference is that the system would be using a new DB server (with different name from the original DB server).

Since the server and Management Group names are not changing, can the existing FCS agents connect to this new configuration?  Or do the agents as well have to be re-installed to communicate with the new configuration?

  • Issue resolved.

After successfully reinstalling all FCS components, opened MOM Console and noticed previously installed agents were checking in and showing the following error:  "An agent at xx.xx.xx.xx attempted to contact the MOM Server but was rejected because the MOM Service is configured to reject new manual agent installations."

Followed process to modify MOM Server to accept manual agent installations:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc180826.aspx.  Under Pending Actions, manual agent installs appeared for all of the previously-installed agents.  All have been approved and are slowly but surely checking in with the new FCS server.
