Windows 7 Backup and Restore is still incompatible with Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows 7 Backup and Restore continues to contain a defect that has been well documented:

"This issue occurs if you back up a library that contains custom folders that are located under your user profile." [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979281]

For example, using Zune with Windows 7 leads to the creation of a Podcasts folder that is added to a user library. Subsequent backups yeild the following error message:

"Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Podcasts. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))"

This defect is documented by Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979281 under "Scenario 1." Due to this defect, users are limited in their use of Libraries in combination with Backup and Restore.

    When will this be fixed?

  • Hi,

I suggest perform the steps under the Scenario 1 resolution to solve the backup error message. Thank you for your understanding.

  • I am obviously aware of the "Scenario 1 resolution." That does not "solve" anything. The root cause is bad design and implementation by Microsoft. This need to be fixed by modifying the implementation of Microsoft Windows 7 Backup and Restore.
