Cannot delete storage pool RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have done a clean install of WSS 2012R2 onto a SSD and applied all updates.

I've then installed a RAID from another server and now the Server Manager reports a non-primordial unhealthy/unknown storage space made up of virtual and physical disks.

I cannot delete the physical disks since it says there is a virtual disk with the friendly name of "Storage space" that is detached.  I cannot delete the virtual disk as it says the config is read only (and trying to attach it to the new server fails).

I've tried using PowerShell to reset its status with:

    Get-StoragePool -FriendlyName "Storage*" | Set-StoragePool -IsReadOnly $false

But it gives me an access denied error.

The virtual disk says it is in mirror layout with thin provisioning, in case that's relevant.  I don't care about the data on the RAID.

    Any suggestions?

  • I'm an idiot.  I wasn't running PowerShell with elevated status.

  • Hi Ochre,

    Thanks for your post.

May I ask that have you solved the problem now?

You could try to get the name of the Storage Pool with Powershell, also known as the friendly name.

Then if you are sure, you can delete the storage pool:

    Get-StoragePool –FriendlyName “Storage” | Remove-StoragePool.

    Best Regards,

    Mary Dong
