  • Make sure Search Service Application Proxy is created as well under Search Service Application and also make Search Service Application Proxy is connected to your Web Application under service connection and make sure search service is running on the respective server.

  • Hi Sharath,

Search proxy already created for the target web application, permission also granted, search is running on the specific server but somehow still search is not working. This is a non production server.

  • Hi Raj Ganguly,

Please follow below steps to troubleshooting your issue.

Whether some error messages in the SharePoint search admin page?

    1. Go to Services.msc, make sure "SharePoint Server Search 14" is started. If not, start it.

    2. Go to Central Administration -> Services on server -> Make sure SharePoint Server Search Service is started.

    3. Make sure default content access account has full read permission.

    4. Try to make farm account as search service account. Go to SQL Server Management Studio -> Databases -> Security -> Find the account -> Properties -> User mapping -> Tick all search service application databases and grant enough database permission.

    5. Try to create a new search service application, compare the result.

    6. Try to reboot the server.

You could provide more ULS log and event log for further troubleshooting.

  • Hi Emily,
There are no specific errors on the search admin page as i can see "searchable items" count is mentioned , crawl success & failures is mentioned as well.
all your points 1-6, i checked and its all are fine but still when i try to search anything from search center page i get error "The search request was unable to connect to the search service".

upon checking ULS got below error
Monitorable FASTSearchRuntime::SendRequest--Search Service Not Found Exception when trying to Search FAST backend:
Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Query.SearchServiceNotFoundException:The search request was unable to connect to the search service.

  • Hi Raj Ganguly,

Whether search service suddenly unavailable? Have you installed CU or updated operating system?

    1. Make sure the service account of the search service application is the Farm account. Then do an IIS reset.

    2. If the above doesn't work, please run SharePoint Products Configuration Wizards.

    Best regards,

    Emily Du
