How to change KMS host key? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our client has a KMS host server which got activated with wrong KMS host key. Now, we need to change the installed KMS host key with the new one and re-activate the same. At the same time, we need to keep the existing KMS host key in deactivated status. Please let me know how to do this.

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

Open an elevated cmd prompt and run slmgr /IPK xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

This will replace the existing KMS host key with the new key you enter

then run slmgr /ato to do the activation

  • Hello,

This would not affect the Office KMS host functionality.

Clients that are activated will remain activated, they will renew with the same KMS host.

The count will likely start over again.

  • Hi Darrell,

Thanks to your response. KMS host has Office 2010 key installed as well. Will there be any problem if I replace the KMS host key? Will there be any problem with existing client activation?

    Regards,
