Superfetch n Ready boost won't play RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Somehow Superfetch and ready boost will not stay live. The only way to get them started is to delete the contents of the prefetch folder! they will then work until the PC is restarted.

If I try to restart the service which is set Automatic in services.msc it gives the error 2 that the file cannot be found. I have checked to see if sysmain is there and it is.

I have tried any number of registry tweaks -  no effect. I've run SFC /scannow, chkdsk and used msconfig with all services other than Microsoft turned off for a clean boot.

Ive scanned for virii using Panda's cloud, Eset, Norton and AVG.

So can someone point out what Im sure I have missed.

    Thanks in advance

    Summary below

Using TweakPrefetch v5.1.2.1 I disabled prefetch, then cleared the prefetch cache and then enable superfetch and rebooted.

Works fine now, no more 3 minute boot times!!! back to 46 seconds.

  • Well done some more troubleshooting and found this not a fix but:

This file NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.pf in the prefetch folder stops superfetch from working. Soon as I delete this single file from the prefetch folder, Superfetch works again and Readyboost can be configured.

Alls fine until I reboot PC and the file is created again and therefore stops superfetch!!

Where is the fix button from MS when you need it

  • No. Though this time on restart Superfetch did start of its own accord then turned off along with Readyboost.

  • Hi,

I suspect this issue may be related to the sysmain.dll file, please try applying this hotfix to update this file.
