Page with a Report Viewer Web Part breaks when created via a Site Template RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I create a new site using a custom site template, any page that contains a Report Viewer web part is blank.  When I go to EDIT the page, I receive the following error:

"Sys.InvalidOperationException: Could not find UpdatePanel with ID '{UpdatePanelID}'.  If it is being updated dynamically then it must be inside another UpdatePanel."

I don't see any related errors on the event log or SharePoint error logs when I navigate to the broken page.

If I navigate to the "Web Part Page Maintenance" screen, I do in fact see the ReportViewer Web Part on the page.  I can delete the Report Viewer web part and then edit the page.

I am running on SQL 2008 R2, SSRS Integrated mode.

    To recreate this issue:

    1) Create a site that has a report viewer web part on one of the pages

    2) Save site as a template, include all content

    3) Create a new site using the custom template

    4) Navigate to the page with the report viewer control

Any ideas as to what would cause this?  Is there a possible work around?  The SharePoint solution we are building depends heavily on the end user's ability to easily create and deploy site templates so it is essential to come up with a repeatable solution.

  • Hi,

I have saved a site as template, and created a new site using this template, after this, the page contained the Report viewer web pat worked well.

Please try to add a new report viewer web part after you delete the web part to check if the issue occurs.

And please review your master page and current page, there should be some updatepanels, please set their UpdateMode property to "Conditional", then the problem should get away.
