Move DB from SQL Ent to SQL Internal RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

I have a WSS 3.0 installation with DB on SQL 2008 Enterprise edition. Now I need to move content databases to another WSS 3.0 server with SQL that comes with it in basic installation.

I cannot backup-restore DBs 'cause I get error message "The media family on device is incorrectly formed". It happens 'cause Internal SQL version is older than Enterprise one.

    Any ideas?

  • How configured is the environment?  If you needed to move just a site and there isn't too many customisations, you could use STSADM for either an export or a back-up.  That way you won't need to worry about the configuration database.

  • I backed content database and then restore it to another server. But when I try to open new site I get Access Denied error.

Both servers are not in a domain. I've created user with the same login/password, but it didn'e help...

  • Turns out there's now way to downgrade MOSS DBs. Even while restoring full farm in Central admiistratin console I get error about sql version incompatibility

Finally it works out with stsadm backup/restore, but only on the same server
