Outlook 2010 not autofilling/auto completing email addresses RRS feed

  • Question

  • I see that a lot of people are having this issue and I've read all of them, as well as multiple others throughout the internet and nothing helps us.  Either the questions/answers don't fit our situation or they are way too techie for us to understand.

This is exactly what is happening to us.

    1. open new email
    2. type first few letters of contact name/email address
    3. does not autofill or auto complete
    4. then we either type in email address (if we know it by heart) or click "to," search for contact, click on "to" below and "ok"
    5. finish email and send
    6. we have to do this every time we need to send a new email and it's a waste of time.

Please give us a very non-techie solution to this problem.  Thanks!!

  • Which Outlook version do you have ?

    if you have Outlook 2010

in Outlook go to Suggested contacts and copy them to some folder on your computer as a backup.

    close outlook

    go to:

    C:\Users\username\AppData\local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache

find all files with Autocomplete name and move them to different folder

run Outlook and check autocomplete if it's still not working

    close outlook

    go to:

    C:\Users\username\AppData\local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache

find all files with Autocomplete name and move them to different folder

    run outlook.exe /cleanautocompletecache

    check autocomplete

  • Hi ,

If these email addresses is same Exchange organization, we need to enter first few letters of user’s alias or email address and click “Names” in the menus, then “Check Names”. But it can’t retrieve contacts.

If you want to auto complete contacts and E-mail address at first. You can attempt to Remigiusz-Sz’s advice.
