BranchCache in hosted mode / RRS feed

  • Question

  • There is a W2008R2 server configured for hosted mode at an remote Branch office.
The BranchCache feature is enabled and working as it should in the AD Domain.
There is a pool of several machines at the remote site that are still in a workgroup environment and they need to stay there.
Workstations in a workgroup can't support hosted mode, right ? They could only be configured to cache files if I was running distributed mode, true or false ?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I just don't get it, TIA. ;)

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the post.

Workstations (Windows 7) also support hosted mode branchCache. But you need to configure client firewall rules and enable BranchCache by command.

Non-domain member client configuration for hosted cache mode

  • False.  You can do it in hosted mode if you set client authentication to none.

If the hosted cache server and client computers are not joined to an Active Directory domain, set client authentication to NONE using the additional clientauthentication parameter in this command:

Netsh branchcache set service mode=HOSTEDSERVER clientauthentication=NONE

  • Thank you & sorry, I forgot to mention the hosted cache server is already a part of the AD Domain.
