Trying to install downloaded Windows 7 updates, but system gets stuck "searching for updates on ths computer" RRS feed

  • Question

  • The title pretty much says it all. I stopped receiving automated downloads of Windows 7 updates in Dec 2016 (even though my system is checked for receiving automated updates). I went to Windows Catalog and found updates released after Dec 2016, downloaded them, and when I try to install, the infamous "searching for updates on this computer" pops up and does nothing. I can't even cancel it. I have to right-click on the program line at the bottom of the screen and exit it that way.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?
