An unexpected error occurred while compiling expressions. Native compiler return value: ‘[BC30494] Line is too long.’.
I am creating a huge report using SSRS report builder which consists of 500+ columns ,it needs to display dynamic columns based on the user selection.
The report works fine when there are 390 column but as soon as i add 10 more columns and run the report. I got this error.
"An unexpected error occurred while compiling expressions. Native compiler return value: ‘[BC30494] Line is too long.’."
i cannot reduce the number of columns as this is the basic requirement and the user might need to display any data from 500 column. I have already checked the forum , there was two resolutions:
1) "Reduce the number of textboxes" - which is not possible in my case
2) "Reduce the length of textboxes names" - which i have already done but still not able to get the report.
Could any one please help. Thanks in advance.
Hi Priti A,
The error indicates that there are too many different expression-based textboxes in the report.
In Reporting Services (RS) 2008, it introduction Rich Text formatting and individual textboxes have longer identifiers in the generated VB code during publishing. So that it is possible that a 2005 report that was previously just barely under the VB compiler line length limit, would result in a line too long in RS 2008.
In order to solve your problem, one workaround for Reporting Services is to move portions of the report into a separate subreport so that each report uses only ~1000 textbox definitions each.

As you told i created a subreport but the report is not working as per our requirement. It will display as two separate reports and this is what we don't want.
Can we increase textbox definition length for a report so that it will accept more than 2000 textboxes ?
Thanks again. :)

As per my understand, it is not support to accept more than 2000 textbox in SSRS.
