End of Support for MDT 2012 U1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good morning all, on this link (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2872000/microsoft-deployment-toolkit-support-life-cycle) I can read that MDT 2012 U1 is not longer supported nor available for download.

However, on the MDT page, the link to download it is available: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=25175

Based on the MDT releases currently supported (build 8443 and MDT 2013 U2), nobody allows, please tell me if I am wrong, the deployment of old OSes like 2008, which is still under extended support phase (end is on 2020, see https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/rmilne/2014/07/24/save-the-date-end-of-exchange-2010-windows-7-and-2008-mainstream-support-t-minus-6-months/).

So, even if I can think that is a not likely scenario, how do you currently allow an hypothetical customer to run a Litetouch deployment of Windows 2008?  To me it appears an hole to the support datasheet that MDT 2012 U1 is out-of-support; it is the unique tool that supports 2008.

Waiting for an answer, thanks in advance for the support

  • In the MDT 2013 "Using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit" guide lists the following OSes:

    "Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows Server 2008 R2".
