Setting up Sharepoint Software Directory RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I work in an IT company and we always looking for software and we tend to all download the same program multiple times because there is no central location or easy way to find it. I have installed sharepoint and I have a NAS device that I will put all the software onto. Is there a way that I can have a software directory so a user can fill in the name of the software, brief description of what it does and then an uplaod option which uploads the file to the NAS device and not my SQL database. Any ideas or shortfalls that anybody sees with this idea will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • I have deleted a reply in this thread that told us how to do this in SP 2010.

Those of you who feel the urge to tell us in a pre-SP 2010 forum thread how things would work if the user had SP 2010, please save your efforts for a SP 2010 forum where they are - in comparison to here - not off-topic.

WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx
Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters

  • Sorry, I thought it was interesting to know that the feature is nearly out of the box in the next version before starting developing it from scratch or buying another product... my bad.

Actually I think I'll keep my answers for me in the future, it will give you less work to moderate the forum.
