Project 2010 PWS site provisioning error RRS feed

  • Question

  • When creating a new project web app site in Central Admin, it returns a status of "Failed - see the application event Log".

The event log reports 3 events (in order):

Project Server 7381 - ProjectSite post provision setup completed with errors

Project Server 6966 - Provisioning 'PWA': Post provisioning setup failed. Exception 'Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.ProvisionException: Post provisioning setup failed. at Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.PsiServiceApplication.CreateSite(ProjectProvisionSettings provset)'.

Project Server 6971 - Failed to provision site PWA with error: Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.ProvisionException: Post provisioning setup failed.
       at Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.PsiServiceApplication.CreateSite(ProjectProvisionSettings provset)

SQL and SP are on the same server. This is a new setup specifically for Project Server. I followed the videos/guidance on technet for installation. I've tried re-installing Project and recreating the service application.

The PWA site is browsable, but it does not display all the content (http://missionlinen.s3.amazonaws.com/Capture.PNG)

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

What do the SharePoint ULS show? Did you create a new PWA site or use restored Project Server databases?

    Thanks

  • It's a new site. I couldn't find anything useful in the logs but I"m probably not reading them correctly. I was using the ULS viewer tool. Is there something specific I can filter on to see the relavant entries?

  • Open the log file with the timestamp from when you provisioned the PWA site and try searching for "Post provisioning setup failed". if you find anything have a look at the entries before and after this to try and work out why it failed.

    Thanks

  • Did you create a Site Collection before attempting to provision PWA?

if so, go to the site collection administration (Site Actions > Site Settings), locate Site Collection Features

I would recommend you delete the PWA instance and try again.

Before you do, be sure that the following are Active:

    • Activate at least these Site Collection Features (can cause PWA to fail to build BI Center):
      • PerformancePoint Services Site Collection Features
      • SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure

Also, be sure you have the proper permissions setup in SQL Server for the accounts (farm Admin, your installer account, etc.).

    Try to provision PWA again.

overall in general I recommend the following broad steps when setting up PWA.  Of course, details matter often.

    • Create a new SharePoint Web Application
    • Create a new site collection (Team Site template)
    • Enable features as above
    • then create the PWA instance on that web application

if this does not solve, please repost...
