    1. Can Content Organizer be used with list items?
    2. Can Content Organizer be used to route document from site to another Site in different web application?
    3. Can Content Organizer be used to route document from site to another Site in different farm?
    4. Content organizer will move only one document at a time using Rules defined. Is there any work around for routing group of files at once?

  • 1. Not List Items - Documents. What you route needs to be or inherit from Document content type

    2. Yes as long as another Content Organizer has been configured there (http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154/t/84077.aspx)

    3. No this is within a farm.

    4. Document Sets perhaps? I speculate a little as I haven't done that but someone seems to have as detailed here; http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/Blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=132

  • Hi,

I understand that you have some questions on content organizer.

Q1. You cannot use this feature to manage any list items, it works only for the documents.

Q2. That’s possible, you can go to Site Actions > Site Settings > Content Organizer Settings, then  check “Allow rules to specify another site as a target location”.

Q3. This requirement cannot be realized by OOTB methods.

Q4. You can upload multiple documents but you need to run a timer job manually. Running a timer job will trigger every content organizer on every document. So it's still a single item-targeted feature. You can go to the drop off library-Library Settings > Version Settings >  Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited. Check NO for this. And after you upload multiple documents in the library, there will be no check out status for the document, then go to Central Administration > Monitor > Job Definitions >  Content Organizer Processing timer job, click to run the timer job, the documents will be routed to the destination library.

If I have any misunderstandings, please feel free to let me know.

    Thanks,

    Kenon Yin

  • just one more query.

when content oragnizer feature is activated, it creates a drop-off library in site. Can't it possible that existing document library is used as drop-off library.
