Populate newsfeed

    Question

  • Hi

    Sometimes I've to populate the newsfeed - but on 2 users I get the error:

    Update-SPRepopulateMicroblogFeedCache : Repopulation failed. Please check logs for error

    at NewsFeedpopulate.ps1:24 char:9

    .......................

    foreach ($oUser in $Profiles ) {
        if ($oUser.item("SPS-PersonalSiteCapabilities").Value -eq 14 ){
            $personalurl = $url + $oUser.item("personalspace").Value
            Write-Host $oUser.item("AccountName").Value
            Update-SPRepopulateMicroblogFeedCache -ProfileServiceApplicationProxy $proxy -accountname $oUser.item("AccountName").Value

    ....................

    It runs on everybody else

    when I look in the log I only see this:

    MicroBlogList.GetMicroBlogPostsForRePopulation http://mysite/personal/<user1>/ Repop query returns 10 items, created 10 entity posts, 10 co-feed posts, 0 reply ref-posts, 18 tag ref-posts, 0 rollup-posts, total 38 cache entries

    I've checked the Personal Site Capabilities is set to 14 and the feed service provider on the 2 profiles and it looks fine

    Can anyone assist?

  • Hi Amit

    There's no more in the log files as I described in the OP

  • Hi JmATK,

    Check if the issue still exists after removing and re-adding  the instance of the distributed cache service via the command below:

    Remove-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

    Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

    Restart-CacheCluster

    Besides, do you find any detailed error information in ULS log? ULS log locates at:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS

    Best regards,

    Grace Wang

  • Hi Grace

    Seems a bit "overkill" removing the SPdistcachServiceInstance when its only 2 users that gives an error...

  • Hi JmATK,

    Is there any update?

    The Distributed Cache Service provides caching functionality for Newsfeed Feature. Since the error message cannot provide more detailed information, so I suggest you re-adding distributed Cache Service to check if the issue exists.

  • Hi Grace

    Still only 2 users gives the error - so thinking there's something wrong with those 2 MySite

  • Now down to 1 user....

    Thinking it could be the cache/logon token settings/timeout ? - got this in the ULS on that user:

    maybe this?  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219613.aspx#finetune
