New Deployment - Skype for Business 2015

Question
-
Hi
Our current setup uses OCS 2007 R2 for internal communication. We are planning for SfB 2015 for internal and external user communication. Our current user count is less than 500 and it might reach max 1000 in next 5 years. We decided to go with standard edition. With SE can we have 2 SE servers in pairing for high availability (Q.1)? There is no need to migrate anything from existing setup, the new deployment will co-exist with current OCS servers. during the test phase can we enable SfB for a few OCS users (so they can use both OC as well SfB) (Q.2). Since we plan for external user connectivity we will install the Edge role as well (the existing setup of OCS doesn't have edge role installed), we plan to go with 1 Edge servers (later if needed, for high availability can we use multiple edge servers in pool (Q.3)). Other roles such as Office web app server & Director roles will be installed on separate servers. Later if needed can we add additional roles such as Mediation Server (as of now we don't have any plan to integrate with internal voice - Cisco - with SfB, but uses the in built audio / video feature for conferencing etc) etc.. (Q.4)
Thanks in advance

HI LMS please see the replies to your questions below:
(Q.1)? There is no need to migrate anything from existing setup, the new deployment will co-exist with current OCS servers. during the test phase can we enable SfB for a few OCS users (so they can use both OC as well SfB)
- You cannot have an OCS server and Skype for Business server online at the same time. You will need to install a Lync Server 2013 environment and migrate the users to Lync 2013 and then decommission the OCS 2007R2 and then perform an inplace upgrade from Lync 2013 to Skype for Business. Your pilot phase will be during the OCS2007R2 and Lync Server 2013 Co-existance.
(Q.2). Since we plan for external user connectivity we will install the Edge role as well (the existing setup of OCS doesn't have edge role installed), we plan to go with 1 Edge servers (later if needed, for high availability can we use multiple edge servers in pool
- Yes, but you have to deploy a multi-server edge pool and only have one server configured and later on you will be able to add another server in the same edge pool in the topology builder.
- Yes, you can add the roles to the existing servers or deploy roles to new servers it all depends on your capacity and how many users that will be assigned for certain functions as conferencing and enterprise voice.

Thank You Habib
My understanding is : since we use internal domian name with OCS we can use public domain name (smtp domain name) with SfB and can co-exist with OCS 2007 R2. Please clarify it

Yes only if the Skype for Business is a new topology and you will not be migrating the users, conference directories, buddy lists over. You will delete them from OCS and then re-create/enable them in skype for business , they are 2 mutually exclusive systems.

Thank you. We don't want to migrate anything from OCS 2007 to SfB, because current OCS uses only for internal chat, it will be a fresh installation and gradually will use all features.
Current setup contains Exchange 2010 and end users are using Win 7 OS with Office 2010. We will go with Exchange 2015 (once MS release it) and will upgrade the Office to 2016 in another 2-3 weeks time, it might take 2-3 months time to upgrade the OS to Win 10. Is there any compatible issues with current setup (Excnange 2010 / Office 2010 / Win 7)
