Project Online Essentials vs. Project Server CAL RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to purchase Project Online Essentials subscriptions rather than Project Server CALs for end users who are accessing on premise Project Server?  We already have other O365 subscriptions, but Project Server is still on premise.  Thanks.

  • Technically Project Online essentials is not an equivalent of Project Server CAL since both licensing models are different.

Do you have any plans to move to Project Online in recent times? Best bet will be talk to Microsoft sales in your region and discuss your plans with them.

  • Hi Rick,

Indeed it was possible to run Project Online LITE license on Project Server on-premise for team members. Since Aug 2016 with the new licensing model (Project ESSENTIALS), I guess it is still possible.

You should indeed contact your MS representative sales.

    Hope this helps,
