No internet connection while on Static IP. (Properly set Gateway and DNS) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an issue I can't seem to resolve. We have a few automation computers that are still running XP while we install the new Win 7 computers. These old computers have always been set to a static IP address, but recently they've been unable to connect to the internet. I can connect via a LAN connection through a VNC, but unable with TeamViewer. Computers lost internet connection without us making any changes to the computer so I believe it is an issue other than the computer itself. Just looking for pointers on where to look.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Check all IE settings to make sure nothing has changed
    • tracert google.com shows that the jumps stop at our ISP.
    • Switch to DHCP (It works then, but we can't keep it as DHCP)
    • Copy all Gateway, DNS, and Subnet settings and switch back to static (No longer get internet connection)
