Updates for disconnected WSUS 3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a WSUS server in our network which is 'disconnected', we plan to set up a new server with internet access, to download all the updates in and transfer through a portable HDD to the 'disconnected' existing WSUS server.

I am in process of installing WSUS30-KB972455-x64 in the new 'connected' server and got stuck at the below part

Select Update Source > Store updates locally (radio button)

Shall I tick the radio button?

Why does it say, if you choose to store updates locally, updates are not downloaded to your WSUS server until you approve them?

If I do tick the button, update files that will be downloaded wouldn't be complete, so how can I transfer them to the 'disconnected' WSUS server?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

Yes, you should check the option, as you want to export updates and metadata files to a disconnected WSUS server.

Please refer to the article below regarding to Configure a Disconnected Network to Receive Updates:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd939873(v=ws.10).aspx

In addition, tt seems like that you are running Windows Server 2008 R2 OR lower version. It is suggested to run Windows 2012 or above version, thus, you do not need to download WSUS to install. You just need to add WSUS role.

And to be able to use WSUS to manage and deploy Windows 10 feature updates, you must have WSUS 4.0, which is available in the Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 operating systems. In addition to WSUS 4.0, you must install the KB3095113 and KB3159706 patches on the WSUS server.
