Why is not possible to create different protection group in single partition? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Regarding above subject, we created 1st protection groups to protect some of folders at Windows 2003 R2 SP1 file server.

Which on F drive attached to Dell PowerVault MD1000.

But how do we able to create 2nd protection group to protect other folder beside 1st protection groups?

Reason because data on F drive very important and it keep error and fail can't be backup.

We thinking to separate create multiple protection groups into single partition for the jobs backup other backup. So at least we can cover up some which can be backup some can't be backup.

  • Hi Oneoa,

You can olny create one protection group per datasource ( for example C drive).

Example: If you create a Protection Group A for F:\DATA you can't create another Protection Group for F:\TEMP.

  • i am suffering from the same problem. i have a 3.5 TB of data to be protect on single data source, i've created a single data protection because i am not allowed many onces. the protection group keeps making a consistency check i think after taking a recovery point and the consistency check is taking at least 38 hours to done.
