Automatic updates installing at wrong time RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a WSUS server and through group policy I have scheduled the installation time for my clients to be 10 PM. This has been working fine for years, but recently two machines (laptops) have begun installing updates within several minutes of downloading them once the machine is powered on. This does not appear to be a case of the machine missing the installation window, as it occurs on the same day as the updates are downloaded, and we are not using any deadlines in our environment.

The windows update log shows the 10 PM scheduled install setting when the system starts up:

    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU ########### AU: Initializing Automatic Updates ###########
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU AU setting next detection timeout to 2014-11-12 13:36:41
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # WSUS server: https://*********.com:8531
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Detection frequency: 22
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Target group: Workstations
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Approval type: Scheduled (Policy)
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Scheduled install day/time: Every day at 22:00
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Auto-install minor updates: Yes (Policy)
    2014-11-12 05:36:41:041 456 c44 AU # Will interact with non-admins (Non-admins are elevated (Policy))

Then it detects available updates and downloads them automatically, as expected:

This computer is currently scheduled to install these updates on ‎Wednesday, ‎November ‎12, ‎2014 at 5:46 AM:  - Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3006226)

And it then proceeds to install the downloaded updates and reboot.
