Actual Cost not updating in Project Server 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In Project Server 2007, a resource has been assigned to a task for several months.

That resource entered actuals for a task and it has been approved by the project manager, i can see the Actual work entered by the resource in Resource Usage view, but the actual cost has not updated.

This problem occurs for a task only for a particular month.

Can anyone tell me what would be the cause of this issue?

  • Hi Gokulraj,

Did you verify if the resource rate was not falling in the Effective date in rate table for that resource?
    1. Check out the resource in MS project
    2. Double click on Resource
    3. View the Rate on default rate table & verify the effective date, Update as required & verify the Cost in project.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi,

    Thank for your reply.

I verified the Cost Rate Table, that month doesnt come under the effective date, also all the effective dates have values.

  • Hi Gokulraj--

So by default, if the actual work reported doesn't fall in any effective date ragne, the actual cost will be 0 since the Resource rate is 0. You will need to update the resource rate & validate the actual cost in project.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi,

    The resource has cost rates:

    --         $70/h

    3/1/12 $69.70/h

    7/1/12 $72/h

    7/1/13 $73/h

Only for the month may it is not showing the actual cost,

Actual work updated as 19h for the month may and actual cost is 0

  • Hi Gokulraj

Can you check in the schedule if Actual Cost is calculated by MS Project? You can find this under options. This may be the cause why the actual cost doesnt calculate.

    hope this helps

  • Hi Gokulraj,

Can you please open the project in read/write & hit F9 to calculate & see if that updates the actual cost. Also, please verify from Resource usage view (insert Actual Work, Actual Cost) , if you enter any number in actual hours for any of the day for that assignment, does that update the actual cost.

  • Hi,

    I hit F9, it doesn't work.

I entered actual work manually and it updates the cost, and for the task which was not updated for that also i changed it to '0' manually then entered 19h it is working.

Don't know what would be the reason of this issue.

  • Hi,

Ok, Instead manually updating the hours, You can ask the resource to again enter the time for the specific period from My Tasks page & let the status manager approve the task update & update the project plan. Looks like the previous update in project plan was not updated successfully.

    Hope that helps.
